The Pitch | Take-aways

So, what do we take with us at the end of this course?

In the next section, you will argue what you learnt for yourself and how you might be able to implement lessons learnt in your own career and personal life. Here, we share a commitment to wrap-up best practices and key take-aways. Hence:

The Pitch is a line of talk that strategically aims to achieve a result.

Let’s un-wrap the key features of the definition:

A line of talk: because it is not fixed in its features nor development, and flexibly responds and pro-actively lead our understanding of the audience’s perceptions and reactions.

Strategically: because everything we do in a Pitch is a performance directed to achieve our result.

Achieve a result: a Pitch serves one and only one purpose, that is to get a result. Otherwise, it’s a chat.

We should practice, practice and practice all the time because practice makes you perfect. And, incidentally, if are not convinced, we cannot in turn convince and hence we drastically reduce our potential to achieve the result.

And, finally, and most importantly: whether you are given a time or not, be brief as less is always more. This cannot be emphasised enough: it is harder to be succint than wordy, it is immensively challenging to be sharper in little time. Brevity is the most overlooked quality of effective storytelling: this requires commitment and exercise with a thorough commitment to detailing with brevity and sharpness.
